To Live in the Age of Melting

ep-5Inspired by the iconic Canadian folk song Northwest Passage, by Stan Rogers, To Live in the Age of Melting is a new, multi-media performance by musician, storyteller and theatrical innovator evalyn parry.  Using loop pedals to layer vocals and instruments, and accompanied by live visuals by video artist Elysha Poirier, parry weaves together a complex tapestry of ideas: from the colonial quest for the Northwest Passage to contemporary Arctic Sovereignty; from the doomed Franklin Expedition to global warming; from the human nervous system to the notion of artist-as-explorer:  To Live in the Age of Melting probes the nature of tradition, colonial legacy, and what happens when old, frozen parts of the world we know – and perhaps parts of ourselves – begin to melt.
