A Funeral for Tom | 8pm
Procession begins on Main St. in front of Trinity United Church. Performance finishes in the Town Docks Park
Begin your night with a funeral. The year 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of Tom Thomson’s death, and we are recognizing the auspicious occasion with a funeral inspired by New Orleans Jazz funeral marches. The Heavyweights Brass Band and the Boxcar Boys lead a joyous and solemn procession of canoe lanterns down Main Street. Created by artists Patricia Astley and Krista Dalby, in collaboration with community members, these lanterns will make their way to the Muskoka River to be launched into an iconic Muskoka landscape. We encourage everyone to wear white and join us in the procession.
Want to get involved and make your own paper canoe lanterns? We’ll be hosting community building sessions July 26, 27 & 28 from 1pm-5pm at the Other Side Gallery. To find out more, contact Dan Watson at firstname.lastname@example.org
